Awareness of the importance of water is growing globally and the water sector in England and Wales is no different. The challenges are significant - from meeting the sophisticated expectations of customers to adapting to the impact of climate change, the sector has to rise to these challenges to deliver a sustainable, high quality, efficient service to consumers now and in the long term. Our aim is to protect consumers, promote value and safeguard the future of these essential services. Our strategy sets out how we are going to do this. One key element of our strategy is to promote effective competition in consumers interests. New players and new ways of doing things could help the sector meet the challenges ahead by innovating, adding value and delivering what consumers want. We have set out how we will go about this in our recent conclusion of our competition review. We are now at the beginning of a process which may transform the water industry, as other utilities such as gas, electricity and telecoms have been transformed by competition. We are establishing a new Markets Division to tackle our ambitious work program in this area and we are looking for motivated, professional team players to help us do this. This is a great time to join Ofwat.
